Frequently Asked Questions

In the Studio...

This sections answers questions about my art making process, supplies etc.

Q: What art mediums do you work in?

A:  My favorite art mediums are soft pastels (Rembrandt Soft Pastels and  Conte a Paris Pastel Pencils) and water mixable oil paints (Winsor & Newton Water Mixable Oils).

I recently started  using  watercolors in my sketchbooks (Winsor & Newton Processional Watercolors ). However, I do not consider watercolors one of my main mediums.

Q: What paint colors do you use?

A. My oil paint palette includes a warm and cool version of red, yellow and blue, plus white and earth tones:

  • (Cadmium Red Hue; Permanent Rose; Cadmium Yellow Medium; Lemon Yellow ; French Ultramarine; Phthalo Blue (red shade); Titanium White; Burnt Umber; Yellow Ochre)

My soft  pastel color palette is more extensive. There are too many to list here

My watercolor palette for sketching:

  • (Cadmium Red; Permanent Rose; Cadmium Yellow; Winsor Lemon; French Ultramarine; Winsor Blue; Burnt Umber)

Q: Do you use any painting mediums?

A:  When working in water mixable oil paints, I tend to keep my mediums to a minimum. Sometimes I will use Winsor & Newton water mixable thinner, linseed oil or fast drying medium.

Q: What types of brushes do you Use?

A: I use a variety of shapes, sizes and bristles. I am always experimenting with different brushes and I don't have any favorites. I prefer Rosemary and Co brushes.

Q: What types of surfaces do you work on?

A:  For my oil paintings, I prefer wood panels over canvas. For my soft pastel drawings, I prefer Art Spectrum Colourfix Original Coated Pastel Paper or wooden panels that I have primed myself.
